The Denbigh School Computing Hub is based at Denbigh School in Milton Keynes and provides Professional Development for Computing Teachers across the region being part of a collaborative network of 38 Computing Hubs nationally

The NCCE will provide teachers from Early Years Foundation Stage children through to Post 16 students, with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to teach computing effectively, in order to have the best possible impact on students’ learning and lifelong outcomes.

The Computing Hub region includes schools and colleges in Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire.

Mr K Bartlam

Our Hub Lead Karl Bartlam is a qualified teacher of Computer Science within secondary education. Within his 7 years of teaching, Karl was Years 7-9 leader for 4 years where he led the design of the curriculum and has been one of the lead teachers of A-Level Computer Science. Karl facilitates CPD courses for the National Centre for Computing as well as Isaac Computer Science. Karl has completed his Computer Science Accelerator Certification and is currently working towards his TeachComputing Secondary certification. Karl is also undergoing the BCS Certificate in Coaching for Computing Educators. He is the ICT support for Teaching & Learning for the trust where he helps support colleagues with technology within their classroom and introduces new technologies that might be useful to students and teachers. Karl is a MIEE and runs the Microsoft Showcase School for both Denbigh School and Watling Academy. Karl runs the CAS Mixed Milton Keynes community and is also the CAS master teacher for the region.

Our Primary Lead Rachel Vilder is a qualified teacher who has a wealth of experience in computing and using technology in the classroom. Her experience in schools allowed her to work as a previous Subject Leader Expert for the area, supporting local schools with their computing curriculum. She currently works as a Subject Matter Expert for STEM Learning and the National Centre for Computing, offering guidance and training for primary schools nationally, alongside facilitating CPD courses for the NCCE. Supporting Computing at School as a community leader, Rachel aims to keep on top of the ever-changing aspects of technology and computing, also being a Raspberry Pi Certified Teacher, Apple Teacher and Seesaw Ambassador.

Our nationally recognised qualification will support you to demonstrate your commitment to developing your own practice and to computing as a school subject.

Computer Science Accelerator

 

The Computer Science Accelerator Programme is a certified professional development programme designed to equip you with the subject knowledge and confidence to successfully teach GCSE computer science. This programme is funded and you will receive £920 per teacher for completion of which £300 should be given to departments.

Subject Matter Experts

 

We offer fully-funded consultancy from a network of subject matter experts, to support primary and secondary schools and colleges to improve their computing offer. Bursary funding is also available, payable to schools and colleges who meet the criteria below, upon completion of an action plan.

CAS

Every child in every school has the right to a world-class computing education.

An understanding of computing enables citizens to make informed choices in our digital world. To get to that point, we need to encourage and equip school staff. The CAS community of teachers, academics and industry professionals provides access to a range of resources and local events supporting continuing professional development. Membership is open to all adults except students in Further Education taking school-level qualifications.
